To dispose of each Bamboo Electric Toothbrush head properly, first use a pair of tweezers to pull out the bristles (pulling in circular motions works best), as they are made from either Charcoal Filament, Nylon1010, or Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). If this is too difficult you can just snap head and bristles off.

Next, split the brush head down the middle (starting at the bottom end where the Cornstarch insert is) and remove the insert.

The Charcoal and PBT bristles can be dropped at your local TerraCycle® location (find this on our recycling with TerraCycle page).

Our plant-based Nylon bristles are made with castor seed oil. This means our bristles will eventually break down in a commercial composting facility along side our Cornstarch insert. However, we cannot legally call our Nylon 1010 bristles "compostable" as they will take more than 3 months to do so. This is a huge improvement compared to petroleum-based bristles and comes from a more sustainable source.

As for the main bamboo part of the head, it is 100% biodegradable and can be put in your home compost.

Please always check local recycling policies. Just because our product is recyclable does not mean that your local recycling facility will recycle it.  Every country, city and town has different rules.

This means the Bamboo we use to make our brush heads meet FSC requirements. This certification is considered the "gold standard" for Bamboo and timber as it comes from a forest that has been evaluated and certified as meeting social, economic and environmental standards.

Our Eco-Friendly Electric Toothbrush handle and charging dock is made from recyclable plastics and metals that are recyclable!

We would love to have made an Electric Toothbrush completely out of Bamboo, however, this is not safe. Bamboo is porous and even with a waterproof coating, there is no guaranteed moisture won’t get into the electronics (this could result in mould build-up or a fire hazard). Therefore when it comes to an electric toothbrush, this just isn’t possible. The scientific engineering behind making this successful is just not around yet. But as soon as it is you can be sure we will be on it.

This product design is not where it ends, it is just the beginning and is a step closer to that fully sustainable future we all hope to be in one day. We continue to look for better more environmentally friendly and sustainable materials to make our products with while ensuring we help keep a high standard of oral health. To us it is not one or the other, we aim to provide sustainability and efficacy always.

We may not be a zero-waste brand yet, but our intentions to get there one day are high. So for now our Eco-Friendly Electric Toothbrush is the next best thing. With its amazing effects on your oral health that will leave you with clean and fresh breath,  it’ll also help you reduce your dental waste by up to 95%.

The small insert in each bamboo toothbrush head is made from Cornstarch, which is an excellent material as it is not just high-performing but can also biodegrade in a commercial compost operation and is produced in an eco-friendly manner.

The handle should last for many years, however, when it reaches the end of its life check your local electronic recycling facility and recycle accordingly.

Please always check local recycling policies. Just because our product is recyclable does not mean that your local recycling facility will recycle it.  Every country, city and town has different rules.

The only safe way to recycle the battery is to have them processed by a qualified electric and electronic recycling centre.

As an individual, that means looking up your nearest centre and dropping it off along with any old phones, games consoles, laptops, or tablets.

Remove the battery from the device

If the batteries are physically damaged, store them in an insulated plastic bag to avoid any short-circuiting

Keep them in a cool and dry place to avoid combustion

Bring them to a certified recycling provider who can safely deal with the hazardous materials they may potentially contain

Don't dump used batteries into your regular waste

Don't crush or puncture the batteries that could result in leakage or short-circuiting

Don't store large quantities of li-ion batteries close together without capping or taping off exposed connectors

Don't throw the batteries in the regular recycling bin

Don't keep the old batteries close to flammable materials

Power reminder function: When it is turned off the mode light will turn on to show the current battery power, and it will automatically go out after 3 seconds.

5 lights are on, indicating that the power is above 95%

4 lights are on, indicating that the power is about 75%

3 lights are on, indicating the power is about 50

2 lights are on, indicating that the power is about 25%

1 light is on, indicating that the power is about 15%

When there is only 4 cycles left in its charge, the yellow light of the intensity indicator will light up and flash to remind you to charge.

Connect your USB charger cord and dock together and plug into the wall. Place the Toothbrush handle into the charging dock. A yellow light will turn on to indicate that it is charging. When it is fully charged the light will turn green.

For optimal charge, it is suggested that you do so for 15 hours. See instruction manual for more info.

Lock Function: When the battery is too low (below 3.0V) it will lock and the light will flash yellow. To unlock the handle must be placed onto the charging dock, this will work automatically and resume normal operation.

Overcharge Protection Function: When the Toothbrush reaches full charge and the battery voltage reaches 4.2V charging will stop to prevent overcharging

On a full charge, your Electric Toothbrush battery should last about 30+ days when using it 2 times daily.

Each Electric Toothbrush head should last 2-3 months depending on how firmly and how often you brush your teeth. This is the recommended length of time by dentists. If you notice the bristles are frayed or the bamboo has diminished before then replace sooner.

We are proud to say we have CE, FSC, FCC and BSCI certification.

CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product meets all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives.

A Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited Forest Management certification from SGS assures buyers that timber has come from a forest that has been evaluated and certified as being managed according to the correct social, economic and environmental standards.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) means the product has been tested to comply with FCC standards and it has been approved. Meaning that it meets regulated limits for ionizing radiation and meets FCC emission rules and regulations.

Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is designed on the basis of labour standards of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and other important international regulations, such as the UN Charter for Human Rights, and national regulations. It is used to maintain and monitor the social standards of consumer goods in all supply countries.

The Bamboo Heads that come in our Eco Friendly Electric Toothbrush Kits are NOT compatible with any other electric toothbrushes.

We do have Brush Heads for Philips series 3, 6 and 9 available online to purchase.
